Technical museums with the greatest past in the northern region
Iron has been a part of our life for over 3000 years and the faster and faster development of humankind could be impossible without it. Iron craft was kept in secret, which was handed over from father to son. Today, in the era of factories, only a few people can learn how to make this ordinary, still special metal. The objective of the Museum of Metallurgy in Miskolc-Felsőhámor is show the iron heritage to the public.
The museum in the Baroque building has a permanent exhibition, which shows how to make and process iron. Dioramas and working models offer a great experience to visitors. Interactive temporary exhibition takes visitors back in time of the era of the founding of the state, where visitors can make iron as if they were one of the maids of that time. The museum offers a wide range of museum educational programmes to students from creative classes or museum classes to school trips.
The ,,Fazola Furnace”
There is a museum in Újmassa called Massa Museum, which belongs to the Museum of Metallurgy, showing the 100-year-old story of the ironworks in Diósgyőr-Hámor as well as the work of the Fazola family, who played an important role in the life of the ironworks. Next to the building of the museum, one of the most significant industrial national monument can be found. It is the only blast-furnace remained, the block of the Fazola Furnace. The neighbourhood of the reconstructed smith workshop is often loud with the sound of the sledgehammer, and on the opposite bank of the Brook Garadna, the machinery used in metallurgy and mining attracts visitors. In the buildings taken care of by the museum, objects, artefacts, documents, and other technical intellectual heritage welcome visitors. In both museums, there are tourist information points, with the help of which tourist can get to know the Hungarian and Slovakian artefacts of the iron craft.
