The Mountain Bükk is one of the regions in Hungary rich in caves. Saint Stephen Cave in Lillafüred stands out of other caves with its measures, dripstones, which fascinate its visitors. The cave was discovered in 1913 and it offers several interesting formations to its visitors. The Saint Stephen Cave was declared a medicinal cave in 1991. Its deepest part has been named “A Pokol” (The Hell). Interesting formations can be seen everywhere and they have been given names like Mammoth Teeth, Fairyland, Hall of Columns, Theatre Hall. The cool air of the cave is clean, pollen-free and 100% humidity so in 1988 part of the cave was turned into a medicinal cave called Black Room for people with respiratory diseases.
