Papszer
Amid ancient walls Ódon
At the bottom of Mountain Avas, the ancient Papszer is situated, the exhibition hall of Herman Ottó Museum. It is the oldest public building in Miskolc. It is as old as the ancient church above it. There was a Calvinist Secondary School in the building from 1560, then in 1899 Borsod-Miskolczi Museum was opened. It is called Herman Ottó Museum today. Permanent archaeological and historic exhibitions tell visitors about the centuries of the town of Papszer, but temporary exhibitions and displays of fine arts can also be seen here.
Peleház
Herman Ottó’s Holliday Home
Herman Ottó’s former holiday home, Peleház, as he used to call it, is situated in Lillafüred, in the picturesque valley of the Brook Szinva in the Bükk. The skilled scientist grew up in the neighbouring village of Hámor. He was attached to the Bükk and Miskolc all his life. The museum inherited Peleház from the family and arranged a nice exhibition in the holiday home in the forest; family photographs, love letters, diaries, drawings, personal belongings all tell us about this great scientist’s private life. In the garden, furnace and a place for roasting bacon offer active relaxations.
