Miskolc, narrow gauge railway in the forest

Miskolc and its neighbourhood in the eastern gate of the National Park in the Bükk offers several hiking routes under and above ground. It is worth visiting the Bükk for those who are in favour of active relaxation as it is a paradise for bikers and hikers. Several routes offer a great opportunity for hiking in the forest.

The tourist routes lead through the most beautiful parts of springs, valleys, and mountain ridges with several look-out places where you can have a fantastic view from. Those who are keen on winter sports can ski and sledge on the slopes in Bánkút.

Approaching the valleys of the Bükk on the narrow-gauge train in the forest is a great program with its special atmosphere. This narrow-gauge track runs through one of the country’s biggest railway viaducts, two tunnels and along the picturesque shore of Lake Hámori, past the oldest, still working industrial monument of the country, the Fazola forge in Újmassa as far as Garadna famous for its trout hatchery.

The narrow gauge train runs all year round; from spring to autumn you can travel in open carriages with a special atmosphere and in winter you can travel in closed carriages heated by stoves. In addition, from the end of November till the middle of December the train turns into a real dreamland and the station and its the surroundings in Lillafüred, as children’s favourite, the Santa Clause train transports its passengers.
